Driving directions to Ongarue shuttle pick up and Timber Trail Lodge locations.

Directions to parking at Bennett Road (Ongarue) - Trail end point


The trail end and carpark are situated on Bennett Road about 2km from the township of Ongarue. Turn onto Ongarue Village road head across the railway tracks then turn on to Bennett Road follow signs to trail end and carpark about 2 km along Bennett Rd.


The trail end parking area on Bennett Road is the arranged pick up location for customers who have booked the all-inclusive ‘package’ lodge accommodation with us. Pre-arranged shuttles (Epic Cycle Adventures) will collect these customers at 5.30pm with their bicycles and overnight bags, shuttling them into Piropiro and the Timber Trail Lodge.

Please allow plenty of time for your journey, the shuttle will only allow a 15 minute wait period from arranged pick up time. With many customers’ needs being catered for it is important that this service runs to schedule.

Heading along State Highway 4 turn onto Ongarue-Waimiha Road, after 2 km turn right into Ongarue Village Road across the railway and turn on to Bennett Road, following signs to trail end and carpark about 2 km along Bennett Rd.

Directions to Timber Trail Lodge - Piropiro


If you are coming from the north (Auckland, Hamilton etc) come via Te Kuiti and follow State Highway 30 towards Benneydale.

If you are coming from the east (Rotorua, Taupo etc) also follow State Highway 30 via Benneydale.

Turn off SH30 onto Waimiha Rd towards Waimiha. Drive 15km then turn left on to Ongarue Stream Road, following the signs to Piropiro.

If you are coming from the south come via Taumarunui, turn off State Highway 4 towards Ongarue onto Ongarue-Waimiha Road. Drive about 20km past the small town of Waimiha, and turn right onto Ongarue Stream Road, following the signs to Piropiro.


Continue on Ongarue Stream Road for 6km then take a right onto Kokomiko Road, still following the signs to Piropiro. Once you start on the unsealed section of road, you have another 15km left to reach the Piropiro camp area. Please drive carefully as this section of road is narrow and winding.

When you get to Piropiro drive through the camping area and turn right, following the signs to the lodge.

The Timber Trail Lodge is situated at Piropiro, which is accessed via Koromiko Road and Ongarure Stream Road on the west side of Pureora Forest Park.


If you are coming from the north (Auckland, Hamilton etc) come via Te Kuiti and follow State Highway 30 towards Benneydale.

If you are coming from the east (Rotorua, Taupo etc) also follow State Highway 30 via Benneydale.

Turn off SH30 onto Poro-0-tarao Rd towards Waimiha. Drive 15km then turn left on to Ongarue Stream Rd.

If you are coming from the south come via Taumarunui, and turn off State Highway 4 towards Ongarue on the Ongarue-Waimiha Rd. Drive about 20km, past the small town of Waimiha, and turn right onto Ongarue Stream Rd.

Continue on Ongarue Stream Rd for 6km, then right onto Koromiko Rd which will take you to Piropiro. Once you get on to the gravel road you have another 15km on narrow winding road to Piropiro so please drive carefully.

When you get to Piropiro drive through the camping area and turn right.

Follow the signs to the lodge.

Please drive with care on our King Country roads! Many are narrow, windy and unsealed.
